The stimuli below were used in the research study "Extensive childhood experience with Pokemon suggests eccentricity drives organization of visual cortex", 2019. The images below were taken from the Pokémon sprites of the Red/Blue version of the GameBoy game created, owned, and copyrighted by Nintendo, Game Freak, and the Pokémon Company. Pokémon characters were placed on phase-scrambled backgrounds produced from images of other visual stimulus categories (faces, bodies, words, corridors, etc). This is not an exhaustive list of all the Pokémon stimuli used in the original experiment, it is only meant to serve as an example to the novice reader of what Pokémon look like and how we presented them to the participants.
